On the 30 April a group of 25 Friends went on a coach outing to Powderham Castle which lies in a beautiful deer park on the banks of the River Exe. We had a tour of the castle and as the weather was fair, it enabled us to experience a deer park safari.
On the afternoon of Thursday 28 February 2019 the Friends gathered, in the Assembly Room of the Old Cathedral School, for an illustrative and most interesting talk by Dr Ian Brown about his charity trek up remote mountain valleys in eastern Nepal revealing stunning natural beauty and enriched hospitality in a changing country. His talk was illustrated by some beautiful slides and short videos. The event was preceded by a delicious cream tea.
On the evening of 30th January 2019, an audience of 55 thoroughly enjoyed a programme of music and light hearted readings on the theme of love through the seasons featuring St Mary’s Singers, directed by Joseph Wicks, and with readers Juliet and Richard Lingham.
On the evening of 17 October 2018, Dr Michael Tedder, assisted by Daphne Skinnard, gave a talk on the early Bishops of Truro from Benson to Frere their families and households. The event included a drinks and canapes party beforehand and was the first evening event organised by the Friends in the Old Cathedral School. It was well supported and greatly enjoyed by all.
On Wednesday 25 July, a group of 72 Friends were entertained by the Gilbert and Sullivan Singers from Penzance. The group comprised Kate Wood (Soprano), Angela Thomas (Contralto), Rob Murdoch, Simon Matthews (Tenor) and John Isles (Bass Baritone). The Accompanist was Philip Chant. They sang a selection of songs from 4 Operettas. During the interval a delicious cheese and wine supper was provided by Marilyn and her team. The event was enjoyed by all attendees.
On the evening of the 14th October, fifty Friends attended a Soirée held at the Deanery by kind invitation of the Dean and his wife. The event took the form of a buffet supper prepared by the members of the fundraising team and musical interludes by Becky McGlade, Philip Davey and Florence McDonald.

Twenty Nine Friends visited Morwenstow and Launcells Churches on 12 September. Enroute to Morwenstow we stopped at Homeleigh Garden Centre for coffee which had lovely views over the Tamar Valley. On arrival at Morwenstow we were given an oversight of the Church and the Rev Hawker. After lunch in the tea rooms there was free time for some to walk to Hawker’s Hut and others to visit the Old Rectory. In the afternoon we visited Launcells Church where we were given a talk and tea and coffee. We arrived back in Truro at 1800 hrs.

On Thursday 13 July 2017 the Friends had their annual evening cruise to St Mawes. Eighty Friends departed from Malpas at 6.30pm, returning to Truro just before 10pm. There was a drama as we approached St Mawes as the gearbox failed which resulted in the boat having to be towed into the harbour and we returned on another boat which was fortunately moored just off shore. We enjoyed a pasty supper at the start of the trip and with an hour in St Mawes were able to disembark and purchase drinks and other refreshments. The photographs show the lovely raffle prizes, the Dean and Canon Alan enjoying their chip supper and the views of the sunset as we sailed back to Truro.

On the afternoon of Wednesday 21 June 2017 a party of 20 Friends visited the Royal Cornwall Museum in Truro. We had a very informative guided tour and the opportunity to view the exhibits including the Poldark and WW1 displays. After the visit we all enjoyed a cream tea in the Chapter House Restaurant.

On Wednesday 14 June 2017 the Friends had the pleasure of hosting a visit of 35 Friends from Salisbury Cathedral. Their visit commenced with a cream tea in the Chapter House Restaurant where the Dean welcomed the group before they had a presentation by Mary Prior. After tea they joined us for Evensong.
